Lesson 3 - Clip Art & Calendars:
Snazzing It Up
Changing Clip Art-
Double
click on the Clip Art that you want to change (For example,
#1). This will pull up the "Insert Clip Art"
box. You can choose from the Clip Art that is displayed
or select "Keep Looking" at the bottom of the
screen (#2) or type in a word on the "Search for
Clips" line (#3). If none of this Clip Art is appealing,
select "Clips Online" for a much larger selection.
You will enter the Internet and Microsoft's "Clip
Art Gallery" site; select from the categories on
the left side or from new categories in the middle of
the page by clicking on the appropriate choice.
When the Clip Art appears, browse through and choose
the graphics by clicking once in the box on the bottom
left of the respective Clip Art. Above the left hand row
of Clip Art is a display that says "Download # Clips";
when you are done selecting the graphics you want, click
on this. You will be given some information and a blue
line that says "Download Now" -- click on this
to download the graphics. The "Insert Clip Art"
box will appear. Once done, do the following to save the
Clip Art.
- Click on the Clip Art item, and a box will appear.
- Choose the third icon in the box; this will insert
the graphic into the "Favorites" category-click
"Add" to do this.
- Repeat the last two steps for the other Clip Art
that was downloaded; if you do not, they will be lost,
and you will have to go back online.
To insert the graphic into the document immediately (after
saving it to the desktop) click on the Clip Art that you
want to insert; an icon will then appear.
- The box will appear again; click on the top icon.
This will insert the Clip Art in the document.
- Move through the document, selecting the graphics
that you want to replace. Double-click on the graphic
to bring up the "Insert Clip Art" box.
- Choose favorites; your downloaded Clip Art should
be here.
- Click on the graphic that you want, and follow step
A).
- To continue inserting Clip Art, repeat steps B) and
C).
Setting Up the Course Calendar-
To add a calendar to your syllabus, click on "Insert"
on the top menu bar; then click on "Design Gallery
Object." This will bring up the Design Gallery Wizard.
- Select Calendars from the menu on the left (#4); this
will bring up the calendar selections.
- Select one of the calendar styles, generally the one
with the same title as the document template style name,
by clicking on the object.

- Click on "Insert Object" in the lower right
corner (#5).
Once the screen moves back to the document, delete the
boxes on the page in the area where the calendar will
be placed. This can be done by clicking on the object
to be deleted, then right click while the curser is on
the object. Select "Delete Object" from the
menu, and the object will disappear. Do this for all objects
in the space. Finally, drag the calendar into the space
where it now belongs.
- The calendar can be resized just like Clip Art.
- Add content by clicking on the date and typing in
your information.
Other Considerations-
Modifying Text around Clip Art- If you want text
to wind around graphics, right click and choose "Change
Frame" and then "Picture Frame Properties."
Click on "Picture Only."
Graphics- Theme your graphics to create a consistent
tone to your document; choose graphics that compliment
the document instead of ones that might distract from
it.
